Overview, Current Scenario & Future Outlook
Author: Dr.Jayashree
In recent years, cost pressures in the pharmaceutical industry have led to a rapid expansion of the market for outsourcing skills like manufacturing, R & D processes and sales functions. Contract Research Organizations (CROs) are of particular interest as their work relates to the discovery of compounds and their subsequent development into marketable products. The benefits and pitfalls of outsourcing have been topics of debate in the pharmaceutical industry for some decade’s now. However; it is evident that the CRO market is growing and that more strategic partnership are being forged. The Effects of Haloperidol on Locomotor Activity and Dopamine Levels in the Brain
Author: Ashlee McElwain
The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of haloperidol on locomotor activity and dopamine levels in the brain. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were injected with haloperidol or placebo daily for thirteen days. During this period, the rats were behaviorally tested on the fourth and ninth days for locomotor activity and catalepsy in an open field. Haloperidol treated animals showed a decrease in activity and rears, and an increase in catalepsy. After behavioral testing, extracellular dopamine activity was measured using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry. The treated animals had a lower level of extracellular dopamine compared to the control and a reduced level of following an acute haloperidol challenge.

United Kingdom National Conference
The Proposed EU Regulation on Medicinal Products for Paediatric Use
11 April 2005
13:30 - 16:20
It is widely acknowledged that medicines for children are insufficiently studied and the use of unlicensed and off label medicines is common. This conference will focus on the European Commission proposed Regulation on Medicinal Products for Paediatric Use. This legislation, like its US counterpart, seeks to improve the manner in which research on medicines for children is organised and to improve the knowledge on the safety and efficacy of paediatric medicines.
The speakers will look at the fallouts of this proposed regulation for the clinical research profession and particularly: why trials are needed, the regulatory dimension, and the practicalities of setting up additional trials in the UK .
This conference will be suitable for Medical Directors, Project Managers, senior-level Clinical Research Associates, Study Investigators and their personnel and ethics committee members. This conference will be chaired by Dr Pascal Van Peborgh, UK Chapter chair.
