In
medicine, Meigs syndrome,
also Meigs' syndrome, is
the triad of ovarian fibroma (a
benign tumor of the
ovary),
ascites, and
pleural effusion. It was first
described in 1937 by Meigs and
Cass. Treatment consists of
thoracentesis and
paracentesis, to drain off the
excess fluid, and unilateral
salpingo-oophorectomy to
correct the underlying etiology.
