Chemurgy is a branch of
applied chemistry that is
concerned with preparing
industrial products from
agricultural raw materials.
Popular during the Second World
War, only within the last 20 years
has interest in this field once
again begun to revive. A prime
example is the search for organic
replacements for petroleum-based
oil and gas (see
biodiesel) and new food
plants.
