A β-galactosidase is a
type of
hydrolase
enzyme that that catalyzes the
cleavage of terminal, β-linked,
nonreducing galactose residues
from a variety of substrates,
including ganglioside GM1,
lactosylceramides, lactose, and
various glycoproteins and
oligosaccharides.[1]
