deCODE genetics, Inc. (Íslensk
erfðagreining in Icelandic) is
a biopharmaceutical company based
in
Reykjavik, Iceland. deCODE
applies its discoveries in human
genetics to the development of
drugs for common diseases. deCODE
has isolated key genes involved in
schizophrenia, cardiovascular
disease and
cancer.
Their work represents the first
time a gene has been identified
(by two independent studies) to be
associated with schizophrenia.
Their access to extensive
population data offers the means
to drug discovery and development,
determination of drug response,
and development of genetic
screening disease. Its
pharmacogenomics program promises
to develop the means to predict an
individual's responsiveness to
practically any drug.
