Haptotaxis is the
directed movement of cell
motility or outgrowth, e.g. in
the case of axonal outgrowth,
either up or down a
gradient of cellular adhesion
sites. These gradients are often
present in
biomaterials seeded with cells
of interest, where the gradients
are established by altering the
concentration of adhesion sites in
a
polymer.
